PS "Meissen"

PS “Meissen” was built in 1885. As such it is the third oldest steamer of the fleet. It is the sister-ship of PS “Pillnitz”. The vessel was lovingly restored and features cozy salons both on the main deck and below deck. The nostalgic charm of the ship will catch your imagination!

SHIP CHRONOLOGY

1885 Launched as “König Albert”
1898 Name changed to PS “Sachsen”
1927 - 1928 Extensive refurbishment and ship alterations, including a lengthening of the hull, a new upper deck construction, the replacement of the wooden buckets with steel paddle wheels and a new white paint scheme
1928 Name changed to PS “Meissen”
1943 Service during the war with a camouflage paint scheme. The steamer is used to evacuate people from Hamburg, following the bombings of the city
1958 - 1959 Installation of a new onboard electrical system with 220 V, powered by a steam turbine
1967 - 1968 An enclosed salon is added on the front deck, while the paddle boxes are replaced
1983 - 1984 Complete refurbishment with a new boiler
1993 Historically accurate reconstruction and return to service
