Castle Pillnitz
The Place
Both the castle and the adjacent park at Pillnitz create a magical atmosphere that invites you to stay just a bit longer. Built in the 18th century by King Augustus II, the castle served as the principal summer residence for all Saxon regents until 1918. The garden houses many remarkable trees and plants, including Europe´s oldest camellia tree. Right beyond Pillnitz, the urban river landscape ends.
Sightseeing Tips
From Pillnitz you make make a lovely walk downriver, back in the direction of Blasewitz. After just 10 minutes you will reach the romantic “Maria am Wasser” Baroque church in Hosterwitz. Beyond Pillnitz you will also find the former royal vineyard and Pöppelmann´s Weinbergkirche.
