Prossen
The Place
The village was once a residence of knights, founded in 1412 under the name "Prossentin". Its importance stemmed from its location as a river crossing on the most important merchant route connecting Bautzen and Königswald through Saxon Switzerland. Tourists appreciate the village's quiet location between Bad Schandau and Königstein.
Sightseeing Tips
The Lilienstein (415 metres) and the Polenztal valley are almost on the doorstep. Hikes to the latter are especially popular in the springtime, when millions of snowflakes are in bloom on the meadows along the Polenz river. During the summer, various species of wild orchid blossom in the forests. Passing through the Polenztal valley you can climb to the Brand viewpoint (330 metres) or to the Hockstein at the end of the canyon-like gorge.

You can reach Prossen with the regular services „Saxon Swizerland“, „Elbe Valley Cruise“ and „National Park Line“.
