Meissen

The Town

Meissen is dominated by the towering Albrechtsburg, which you will already see from afar, when approaching the city by river. The castle complex on top of the hill also includes the impressive late-Gothic cathedral. Otherwise the city is famous for the Frauenkirche and Franziskanerkirche, which are located in Meissen´s over 1000 year old town center.

Sightseeing Tips

Meissen is world-renowned for its traditional porcelain manufacture. Indeed you may visit the Porzellanmanufaktur Meissen, located at Triebischtal on Talstrasse 9. In case you would like to make a short hike, there is an excellent footpath to the Spaargebirge rock formations, located right outside of town.
