Heidenau
The Place
Sightseeing Tips
Heidenau is the starting point for excursions to the Baroque Gardens in Gross-Sedlitz and to Weesenstein Castle.
The Baroque gardens were laid out for the Saxon elector Augustus the Strong and served as a prestigious venue for the court nobility. Today, visitors to the extensive park can look forward to lovingly tended flower beds, fountains, an orangerie, romantic statues and an inviting cafe.
A hike into the Müglitztal valley brings you to Weesenstein Castle, which thrones majestically over the village. The most famous resident of the castle was King Johann of Saxony. Visitors can learn interesting details from his life and from the history of Weesenstein in the pleasantly original castle museum. A stroll through the Baroque castle gardens and a tasting of a Weesenstein beer from the castle brewery round off a perfect excursion.
Boat Connections
